Following her emotive June 25 performance at New York's Metropolitan Room
in Chelsea, Karine Hannah returned for a second summer showcase tonight, encoring "AM Radio" favorites: a set of 1970s/early 1980s all originally hits for men. Many of these songs come across as cheesy in original form—sung by guys—but a woman's touch brings them to a higher level, such as Dan Hill's "Sometimes When We Touch" or "If" by Bread, a song I've never been able to stomach until Thursday evening. Others like Leo Sayer's "When I Need You" are already memorable, but it's the Karine touch that breathes new energy into them. Another tour de force performance!
Above, the many faces of Karine Hannah, all of which I love something silly. And Kenny Loggins' "Forever"! Youtube link.
