KARINE HANNAH'S METROPOLITAN ROOM ENCORE

Following her emotive June 25 performance at New York's Metropolitan Room in Chelsea, Karine Hannah returned for a second summer showcase tonight, encoring "AM Radio" favorites: a set of 1970s/early 1980s all originally hits for men.

Many of these songs come across as cheesy in original form—sung by guys—but a woman's touch brings them to a higher level, such as Dan Hill's "Sometimes When We Touch" or "If" by Bread, a song I've never been able to stomach until Thursday evening. Others like Leo Sayer's "When I Need You" are already memorable, but it's the Karine touch that breathes new energy into them. Another tour de force performance!Above, the many faces of Karine Hannah, all of which I love something silly. In the house: producer and longtime friend Bernadette O'Reilly, Ayhan & Dennis, pro bass guitarist Mike Stanzilis, Teddy & David from Washington (and their respective plus-ones), Donna Delmas...
